Going down route 1 to Key West

My partner and I’s anniversary is this weekend. I just today(!)   booked tickets/car/hotel for us to fly down to Miami, and drive US-1 through the k eys to Key West. We leave Friday morning.

I made this drive 18 years ago with my dad, shortly after he was diagnosed with stomac h cancer. Now I get to take the woman I love to see that amazing road and the sheer awesome that is Key West.

I better get packing...

I loved Key West. A buddy and I made a road trip down there from the Navy base that used to be in Orlando back in the 80s. That was a hell of a weekend. I really need to go back some time.

I love that drive, mainly because it takes me to Key West. The road itself can be kind of annoying at times, but Key West is awesome.

About a year before he passed away from cancer, my uncle and I made that drive in a Mustang convertible . We didn’t spend nearly enough time in Key West, but the trip was unforgettable.

Dear heavens was Miami hot in the summer. Whew. He had been cold for a long time due to all the cancer treatments and illness, but I think we finally put the top up while stuck in traffic there.

I’ve made that drive a few times, and what a drive it is. Not to mention how great Key West is. Hope you guys have a great time and that she enjoys it as much as you do.

Oh how I want to do that drive again. It's so awesome. One of these days we'll have to visit my sister in Hollywood so we'll have an excuse to drive to Key West.
